For all of the air play that Google has gotten as far as online content and its distribution, Yahoo is the older company. And in addition to the age of the group, it also offers a lot more in the way of original content. If you have been thinking about the differences (and comparative advantages) between these two powerful Internet juggernauts, there are definitely a few reasons why Yahoo is a solid contender. For one thing, they offer a little bit of everything from themselves, instead of simply pointing you in the direction of someone else’s content. For another, they are better with instant messages.
When you go to Google’s website, you no doubt notice how spartan it is. While this is intentional and was designed to look non-threatening, it can also seem a little bit barren and cold if you are used to the more flamboyant websites out there. This is the polar opposite of Yahoo’s website, which would seem to be decked out for Mardi Gras every day of the year. You can pull up the weather, your horoscope, their own dating site, email, and all manner of different news stories. Basically, Yahoo is a search company which also has its own archives of content through which you can search, Google is pretty much just “yep, there is what you were looking for.”
It ultimately depends on what you want. Yahoo takes what it can from the searches, and extrapolates this into being something of its very own. You can get a lot of content (and check your e-mail while you chat on their superior IM program) from right on their site. You do not have to enter your keywords, move around to some linked site, and trawl around the entire Internet to find what you are looking for. Some people may prefer Google, but Yahoo is a mixed bag that is easy to open and easy to get quality things out of.
